I love entertaining and when I do have friends over, I prefer not to serve dinner. That sounds odd right. Have you ever noticed that when you serve dinner, you are stuck talking to only the people you sit next to? I hate ow restrictive that is. I prefer to have 8-12 different hors d’ oeuvres that I bring out throughout the night so everyone can snack, drink and stay immersed in conversation. No one ever goes hungry at my parties! A rule of thumb, for every 3-4 savory treats, bring out one sweet.
The French refer to this as an amuse-bouche [aˌmyzˈbuʃ] (plural amuse-bouches) or amuse-gueule [aˌmyzˈɡœl] is a single, bite-sized hors d’œuvre.
