Floating Into Paradise, Root Beer Style

Root Beer FloatHappy Root Beer Float Day! What a great excuse to enjoy this sweet concoction. I start with my homemade root beer, after all, the completed dish is only as good as its ingredients.

This recipe makes 2 liters of fresh Root Beer.

Root Beer Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon baker’s yeast
1 tablespoon root beer extract (I prefer the all natural version)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup champagne
Cold fresh water

Root Beer Directions
Add the sugar to an empty 2 liter plastic bottle (DO NOT USE GLASS, pressure builds up from the process and glass may break so be sure to use plastic.)

Add the yeast and mix thoroughly with the sugar.

Add the vanilla and root beer extract followed by the champagne and fill with water leaving a few inches at the top of the bottle. Shake the bottle to help all of the ingredients mix after securing the top on.

Leave in a cool dark spot in your kitchen for 3-4 days to allow it to ferment then refrigerate overnight and serve. Open carefully because pressure has built up on the inside.

TIP: Do not leave the bottle out for more than 4 days or the bottle may explode due to pressure.
