Homemade Granola

Homemade GranolaI find it a bit funny that people pay for food that can easily be made at home. This is such an easy recipe that will make breakfast that much healthier than the boxed cereal that you buy.

This recipe makes 10 servings of granola.

1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1/4 cup honey
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup oat bran
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/3 cup sunflower seeds
1/3 cup almonds, sliced
1/3 cup pecans, chopped
1/3 cup walnuts, chopped
2/3 – 1 cup raisins, cranberries, dried cherries or any other dried fruit

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil to make cleanup easy.

Combine together the wet ingredients (salt, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, oil, cinnamon, and vanilla) together in a saucepan and bring to a gentle boil.

Combine the oats, oat bran, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, almonds, pecans, and walnuts in a large bowl. Pour the wet mixture over the dry and mix to incorporate all of the ingredients together.

Spread the mixture on the baking pan and make sure it is spread out over the entire pan with few clumps.

Bake for ten minutes, stir then bake for another 10 minutes until golden brown. Stir once halfway through.

Allow the granola to cool, then mix in the dried fruit and transfer to an airtight container.
