I think the perfect bbq sauce should be perfectly balanced, it should be sweet, have some heat and that special tang at the back of your tongue. I think I have found the perfect balance with my recipe.
Can of tomato sauce, 32 ounces
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, honey, or stevia
1 cup white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons dry mustard
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 tablespoon your favorite hot sauce
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
2 tablespoons cumin
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Bring all of the ingredients to a boil, then let simmer on low for an hour until it thickens up to your desired consistency.
This recipe yields around 3 cups of BBQ sauce. Cover chicken, pork ribs or beef ribs with this sauce and grill for great results. I love it on my Melt In Your Mouth BBQ Ribs.
